Do you feel stuck? – Getting unstuck is easier than you think

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting Jake – a vibrant 24-year-old with experience as a laborer. Jake is not just your average worker; he’s the kind of guy who exudes enthusiasm, is always ready for a good chat, and has a smile that can light up a room.

As we got talking, Jake shared that he’s facing a bit of a challenge finding work. He mentioned not having a CV, and although it’s not always a requirement in the construction sector, having one could make a difference.

But Jake’s story goes beyond the job hunt. He confessed that not having a fixed address is making the whole process even more challenging. “I’m stuck,” he told me, and that’s when things got interesting.

I suggested that we tackle the CV issue together today – as that small step could open big doors. However, I also emphasized something even more crucial than a piece of paper: his mindset.

“Jake,” I said, “your mindset is the game-changer here. As long as you keep saying ‘I’m stuck,’ your brain will find ways to prove that you’re right.” Is that what you want?

We delved into his living situation, and he understood that he does have a place to stay, even though he doesn’t own it, he is staying with friends in the same area where he wants to work.

I asked him to imagine a future where armed with a fresh CV, he starts earning money. He could give back to his friends who’ve been supporting him and, eventually, secure his own place.

After creating a CV tailored to Jake’s experiences, I asked him what he took away from our session. His response was powerful: “It’s all in my head.” In other words, he realised he had the power to break free from the limitations he had been unknowingly setting for himself.
